As we grow older, some of us are finding that natural remedies are more desirable than artificial medications. While chemical and man-made treatments do have their place, if we can remedy small ailments at home then that is our preferred choice. Our skeptical sides do like to get the best of us, though, and we lose confidence in home treatments that our grandparents once relied on. However, now that you are battling acne all over again, you are ready to try anything but another doctor visit or cream advertised by someone half your age.

Fortunately, there are many remedies that have produced wonderful results treating acne. We’ve listed a few to get you started.

Treatment of acne:

• Create a honey-cinnamon paste and apply directly to pimples. Leave it on overnight for easy spot-treatment.

• Garlic is a wonderful healer. If you can take the smell, rub fresh garlic on and around pimples regularly. Also works as a mosquito repellant and stops those annoying pick-up lines.

• To minimize swelling, papaya juice or tomato pulp work as a neutralizer of inflammation. A ground sesame seed paste (mix with a little water) also works to minimize swelling.

• A paste of ground radish seeds and water will remove blackheads. Use on your whole face, as blackheads are not always seen.

• Apply grated potatoes to your skin for treatment of all skin blemishes.

Prevention of acne:

• A mask of honey left on for an hour each night is said to prevent breakouts.

• Form a paste of ground fenugreek leaves and place on your entire face for 10-15 minutes every night. Rinse with warm water to cleanse skin and prevent acne.

• A mixture of groundnut oil and lime juice left on your face for 15 minutes then rinsed will also prevent blemishes.

• Mint juice is another preventative you can use to wash your face (and has a much more pleasant odor than other treatments).

Don’t be afraid to experiment with these and other home remedies. They are relatively low-cost (you may even have most of the ingredients already) and, unless you are allergic to an ingredient, virtually risk free. Have fun with your natural approach to adult acne remedies and enjoy your results!
